Morgantown Writers Group

Where Writing Shines

Our group has a wide range of writers from all walks of life, but we all share one thing in common–a love of writing. We meet twice monthly on the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays, 6:00 PM to 8:00PM (EST). 2nd Tuesday meetings are in the conference room at the Morgantown public library, Spruce Street, with a Zoom option. 4th Tuesdays are Zoom only.

Our focus is on short story, poetry, genre, memoir, and scripts (at times). We hold informal writing challenges and host WV and regional writers for workshops, readings, and presentations.

Critique Workshop

Receive thoughtful critiques on your writing that can help you grow and learn as a writer. Each piece you submit receives around 20 minutes of group discussion. You will also be expected to review other members’ work using the three step method.

Workshops

We host occasional free workshops on alternate Tuesdays. Past topics have included; humor in historical fiction, fourth person point of view, methods in developing flash fiction poetry, and an panel of editors from The Metaworker Literary magazine.

Social

After a critique session at the library, we often grab a light meal together at a local restaurant. We also hold writing retreats and gather for holiday celebrations.
